How are reductions being calculated?

The baseline will be calculated from readings taken in January, 2009, and all subsequent reductions will be measured as a percentage of said baseline.

Every Friday, Facilities will read the electricity meter in each of the 10 participating dorms to record how much energy has been used in the past week. For each dorm, this weekly number will then be compared to that of a typical week in January. For example, if a dorm used 25,300 kilowatt hours during one week in January and 24,200 kWh during the first week of February, its reduction for Week 1 would be 4%.

You can learn more in the FAQs by clicking the link above the logo on the right--more info will be added to that section soon.

The Battle Begins on Saturday, January 31

Due to the logistics of collecting electricity data, this year the Battle will begin on Saturday, January 31 instead of the usual February 1, and end on February 27.

Throughout the competition, you can check back here each week to see how your dorm is doing.

May the darkest dorm win!
